Medical Device Product Line



Medical Devices for Long-Term Care Facilities
Blue Cube Product Development was tasked with designing and delivering a complete line of medical devices tailored for long-term care facilities. Our team developed, tested, and certified eight essential products: four beds, a walker, a commode, and two patient lifters. Within just 18 months our customer had product in their warehouse. This project extended far beyond product development. We provided multi-year sales and manufacturing support, collaborating closely with both the manufacturer and our customer to ensure success.

Intelligent Fitness Equipment



Development of an Intelligent Strength Training System
Blue Cube Product Development created an advanced strength training system featuring a seamless user experience and the integration of technology. The system included a USB key that stored personalized workout data. Users inserted the USB key into the exercise equipment to access their personalized workout routines, and later back up their progress by inserting it into a central server kiosk.
To achieve this, the project required the integration of sensors into the exercise equipment for accurate data collection and user tracking. The design featured a sleek, shrouded exterior with no exposed fasteners on the front or sides, ensuring both aesthetic appeal and durability. The development process involved collaborating with manufacturers from the US and Asia, balancing manufacturing capabilities with the client’s vision to deliver a high-quality product.
The manufacturer selection process was highly collaborative, with the client involved in evaluating trade-offs between design aspirations and production feasibility. After multiple discussions and iterative refinements, a final design was chosen that met both the client’s expectations and the manufacturing constraints.
Extensive testing was conducted throughout the development process to ensure the product’s functionality and reliability. Bench testing methodologies were devised to assess and select optimal sensing technologies. Once the sensors were finalized, additional tests were performed to validate the mechanical design and sensor integration.
The final product successfully brought together innovative design, user-focused functionality, standards compliance, and manufacturing to deliver a market-ready solution.
Direct to Consumer Fitness Equipment



Blue Cube Product Development engaged in a multi-year collaboration to design and deliver eight innovative pieces of fitness equipment, all centered around a proprietary resistance mechanism. In addition to product development, Blue Cube established an in-house testing lab and coordinated efforts with external testing contractors to ensure quality and compliance.
At the outset, no formal product requirements existed. To address this, Blue Cube conducted comprehensive interviews with key client stakeholders, including marketing and customer support teams, to define user needs and expectations. Further investigation revealed the need to align testing with relevant voluntary standards, which we incorporated into our process.
Working closely with the client’s existing manufacturers, we prioritized efficient, cost-effective production to accelerate time-to-market. After developing the initial product requirements, subsequent machines were designed with similar base specifications, requiring only minor modifications—creating unique fitness machines while maintaining consistency and performance.
Industrial Equipment



Blue Cube Product Development partnered with a leading industrial equipment manufacturer to engineer a range of high-performance products, primarily for use with large excavators. Our collaboration resulted in the development of advanced 48” and 56” grapples with integrated hydraulic chainsaws, a versatile grapple backbone designed to accept multiple attachments, and a dual-axis hydraulic brake system that enables maintaining desired orientation.
Our designs met stringent requirements, ensuring reliability and performance under extreme conditions. Leveraging advanced analysis tools, we engineered a robust grapple system capable of suspending the full weight of a 30-metric-ton excavator. The standard grapple hangs perpendicular to the ground—ideal for bucking felled logs—while our advanced, tilting grapple required an innovative brake system to maintain orientation when positioned parallel to the ground. This system provides unmatched control, enhancing efficiency and safety on the job site.
Beyond the above, we served as the manufacturer’s engineering team, developing a wide array of industrial solutions. Our work extended to designing heavy equipment accessories for the utilities industry, conveyor systems, and specialized products for tree-growing nursery operations.
